  Sexual Conundrum
I have a bit of a problem on my hands. One of my sex scenes has run away from me and is steadily approaching 6k. I'm considering cutting it down some, but I'm not sure if I should.

How much of a good thing is too much, do you think?

I think plenty of novellas put a lot of emphasis on long sexual scenarios, so why not.

It is just a matter of making sure the customer knows what they are getting with each new book and I doubt 'mondo enormous kinky sex scene' is a feature likely to put many off.

*giggle* Yeah, I didn't figure it would hurt anyone's feelings, I just hate the thought of someone getting bored with it. You know, the whole, 'Jesus, would they just come already' thing. lol

I assume things keep happening and evolving :)

I only get bored if it feels like 56 positions and no characterisation....

lol. Yeah, things move along. I think the reason it's so much longer than usual is because I have both POV's in there. I usually stick to one or the other.

Depends how long the completed piece is i guess - I read a story in fanfic once which was called something like 40 days and 40 nights and it literally had 40 sex scenes one after another and by half way through you wanted... conversation - a cuppa tea - a nice walk in the open air - ANYTHING!

Finish it, then let it sit, then read it, and have others read it and see how it sits in the book and whether it swamps it or not.

Thanks! I'm too impatient to sit on anything *eg* but I do have a couple people reading for me. Guess I'll wait and see what they say about it. :)

err... from when she walks into the door till when there eyes close, the first menage sex scene, including the building up foreplay (so I'm incl as the sex scene), is 6250...so I hope it's not :)

And I even cut some out :)

Ooops forgot to say, in Tea for Three that releases at the end of May.

I like to write from everybody's perspective so it can get a little long. But in this scene it was good, it worked well.

If there's an actual plot in the story, I'd have to say you're probably 5.5K too long. When there's plot, the sex scenes usually feel like filler, and I hate filler in a story.

I will admit to being potentially weird this way, so take this opinion with a grain of salt. (It was one of the things I really liked about Tongue-Tied -- there was romance, but there wasn't very much sex at all, and what there was moved the story along)
