Book Cover of the Year
Over at the Epilogue.net forum SI raised an interesting point about Erin Aislinn's cover of the year for 2006. The winning cover, by Paul Ellis is to the left, another by promonant fantasy artist Ciruelo Cabral is below. Possibly there is a innocent explanation but I am having trouble imagining what it could be; more details as they come to hand.

It is a big deal if someone is profiting from another person's creation without permission and without compensating the owner of the artwork. Just because other people have stolen the image doesn't make it okay to keep doing so. If the original creator gives permission (or perhaps sells it as a stock image), then that's different. Otherwise it's as bad as plagiarism.
I can't say for certain without getting a better look at the covers in question, but I think what's happened is two different artists used the same 3D model to make their cover artwork. DAZ3D sells the Millenium Dragon 2 model (see here - http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=3164&spmeta=rq), with poses and textures, and it's quite possible that two different artists had the same model, the same textures, and the same preset pose and just rendered the model then worked it into the artwork. This is not illegal. The model is for sale to anyone who can pay for it. And it does look to me like the artists each did their own post-production effects and touch up on the render, because the two dragons don't look exactly the same lighting and texture-wise. Keep up posted on what comes up. I'll be interested in hearing if this is what's happened.
I've just learned of this now. Freya's Bower has pulled the cover and the graphics artist is working on a new cover now. Hopefully it'll be up on FB soon. Covervan's error with the first cover was unintentional.
