  Is Any Publicity Good Publicity?
It would be hard to give anyone the crown of 'best erotic romance writer', but if the blogverse has anything to do with it Carol Lynne may become known as the worst. I haven't read her work myself but I suspect with all that publicity about her being "bad" may be selling more books than being in the "blah" to "meh" mid-quality range would?

Comments:
In this instance, I think bad publicity is just bad.

Her book was at the crux of such a big furor. I blogged about it at the time, that no doubt it would do sales of that particular book no end of good. But I hazarded a guess that after that people would go 'oh, no thats that Carol Lynne, don't want to touch that with a barge pole'.

I have to give her kudos though, with all that's happened I've not seen a peep out of her anywhere. She's got more self control than I mos likely would have.

That's for sure. But it might be time for a discreet change of pen name somewhere down the line... ;)

No, she's still writing under her own name. She has one book a month for the next year and a half from Ellora's Cave, and has started writing for Total E-Bound or whatever they're calling themselves now. And she's trying to get in with Torquere too. *shudders*

It's reminding me of the "venom cock" uproar that swept through science fiction fandom a while back.

I sometimes envy people who can churn books out but one a month for one publisher then more for others? *insert mind boggling here*

If these aren't stories that were complete and just waiting for a home then I would think the general story quality and characterization can't possible be there.

But then what the hell do I know ~_^

Oh, I think it's definitely helping her. I'm with Giggles on this one (although I haven't read any Carol Lynne--because I don't have the $). I love Connie Mason's bad books, too.

I assume her books for Ellora's Cave were already written?

Emily, take my word for it--you can't buy the kind of exposure those blogs have given her.

Exposure, yes. But sales? Do people go, oh it's described as being horrendous--guess I'll buy it?

I know for a fact that she is proud that she's written 20 books in one year's time. These are all contracted, most for EC, who are probably laughing all the way to the bank. Yes, she's a train wreck and the stories are atrocious, but her sales are through the roof.

Damn, how do I get Karen & co to snark me to shreds? ;P

I can write crap, too. Where's my bling?

I can write wtf? too. Where's my snark?

ROFL, maybe we need to start a 'tear it to shreds blog' :) Each month a new book gets the crap beaten out of it, all in the name of publicity.

Though that might toss us into the 'authors behaving badly' pile, i guess.

I made the mistake of buying her first book. Aside from being unreadable, she named her Navaho (or whatever he was) character after another tribe. Huh? As a woman of NA heritage, I was insulted. As a reader, I was horrified. It was porn, pure and simple.
